Shortly after winning the All-Japan Female Kickboxing Championship at the age of 17, Haruka traveled to Thailand for a highly publicized exhibition match. She lost. Very, very badly. Seeing just how little her belt meant beyond the borders of her home country, Haruka canceled her flight back to Japan and cut ties with her old life. She threw it all away: the managers, the sponsors, the celebrity endorsements. Everything.
Suddenly finding herself a stranger in a foreign country, Haruka climbed back into the ring. She willingly sought out seedy and unorthodox venues, challenging the most dangerous female combatants she could find. Some were honorable, others less so, but every crushing defeat made her better and stronger until finally, she stopped losing.
Now, several years after giving up her title and everything that came with it, Haruka looks back on her old, naïve self with disgust. She's made a name for herself throughout certain circles in Southeast Asia, but knows all too well the cost of hubris. A sudden influx of competitors from abroad has reinforced her suspicions: talented fighters exist all over the world, and she's eager to test her newfound strength against them.
Once upon a time, Haruka was a cheerful and enthusiastic girl, but now she's rather sour and humorless. She isn't a bad person, but she does hold others to a high standard. She values a good work ethic and integrity, and abhors arrogant people. She's known to be extra vicious with opponents who seem to think too highly of themselves.
